Coyote Bush, Baccharis Pilularis

Fun shrub. The name initially drew me in, however the way this thing shines in the fall was what got me good (see Flowering below).

Looks delicate, but leaves are hearty and a little tough to the touch—not itchy. Attracts a ton of pollinator bugs. Bounces nicely in the wind. Plant a few spaced out a few feet apart to create a native, low-maintenance hedge.

Easy to maintain. Once the woody foliage gets densely tangled, just give it a hard cut back to lowest green in the late winter to mid-spring. Will shoot out nice new growth a couple weeks after pruning back.

Flowering: Summer flowering. Male plant has tiny, creamy, yellow, compound flowers. Female plant has tiny feathery, white bunched flowers. Once fall hits, the white flower heads disperse if disturbed.
